Soils are cold and wet
Day length is increasing—but plants don’t “see” it without sunlight
Root development is minimal across cereals
In short: crops aren’t actively growing yet.
So it raises an important question:Why are we putting large amounts of nitrogen onto crops that don’t have the root system to use it?
