About
I am a 100% arable ( Cropping here in NZ) farm. My farm is an hour south of Christchurch, very close to Methven and Mt Hutt. I have 190ha, of which I now farm 153ha, having leased 40ha to a neighbour. I moved to NZ in 1997 having come off a farm on the edge of Bedford, which is now under houses. I went full regenerative 4 years ago, and in all honesty I have been really struggling. The biggest challenge has been slug control, so this year I have thrown a match on the stubbles, Which has given me the best establishment in years. Only to have been badly hit by grass grub.( A beetle which lays its eggs eggs in the soil in November, and then the larvae eat the roots. Like arable farmers worldwide, we are faced with low commidity prices and constantly rising inputs. I hope for all our sakes that there is an improvement soon. Goodbye for now.
